Amid the shade of several tall apartment buildings lies an oasis, where people can relax, sunbathe and swim in crystal clear water — it’s at the Park City Swim Club in Rego Park. Plans are in progress to heat the pool for the coming season.

“I think people like the release from the heat,” said owner Joel White. “It’s closer than the beach. It’s more convenient than the beach. We provide a clean pool and large sun deck, umbrellas and shade areas, if they want it.”

The club, which opened in 1977, also boasts a myriad of fun activities and amenities including swim races, treasure hunts, poolside music, water aerobics, bingo and even coffee and bagels on Sunday mornings.

There is a 40-by-80-foot Olympic-size swimming pool, a 25-foot round kiddy pool and 24-by-24-foot shaded area with cabanas, umbrellas, lounge furniture and tables.

Park City is offering free open swim on opening day, Saturday, May 26, space permitting. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The club is open until Sept. 3, Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

Daily rates for guests are $13 per person during the week and $16 on weekends. A lounge chair is provided for an extra $7 and a cabana is an additional $25. Membership rates are $410 for the first person, $335 for the second adult or child living at the same residence and $300 for each additional person providing membership is paid in full by May 26. A lounge chair is $100 for the season which typically extends from May 26 to Sept. 3 and a cabana is $305.

“The staff and the membership is on a first name basis,” White said. “We are very friendly. A lot of our staff has been here continuously, so they get to know the customers really well.”

Swim lessions are available for toddlers through adults at Park City’s “new” swim school. Rates are given at registration. The pool is available for children’s parties as well as early evening adult parties.

The club also offers discounts on membership. For example, any new family of three members or more who is referred by a previous member will entitle said previous member to a 20 percent discount on their membership renewal.

A new family of three or more people will also be eligible for a 25 percent discount from their total membership including lounge chairs and cabanas.

“There is special attention taken to the cleanliness and care of the water,” White said. “There are new bathrooms, locker rooms and changing areas for the 2012 season.”

The Park City Swim Club is located at 98-00 62nd Drive in Rego Park. It can be reached at (646) 450-POOL (7665) or (718) 830-9634 or visit them online at parkcityswimclub.com.
