The FBI and the NYPD are on the hunt for three men who robbed an armored car driver at gunpoint in the ATM lobby of the HSBC Bank located at 82-57 Broadway in Elmhurst on Saturday.
According to the FBI, a GardaWorld armored truck arrived at the bank for its regularly scheduled pick-up of deposits around noon when three men of either Hispanic or Asian descent pointed what are believed to potentially be .45-caliber semiautomatic handguns in his face.
After stealing an undisclosed amount of money and pepper-spraying the guard, the suspects, dressed in heavy winter clothing, fled westbound on Broadway on foot, authorities said.
Investigators believe the suspects escaped the area in a navy blue or black Ford Explorer that witnesses say was dirty from the recent winter storm and missing its front license plate.
GardaWorld is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the suspects, whom authorities consider armed and extremely dangerous.
Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at (212) 384-1000 or the NYPD at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
