Fourteen students from the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School in Rego Park demonstrated the institution’s commitment to hands-on learning June 20 when they visited the Queens Chronicle offices for a lesson in the field of journalism.

Joined by teacher Sybille Moss — filling in for colleague Audrey Gelin, who was called to jury duty — the students learned some basics about reporting and got advice on a couple stories they’re working on at school. They spoke with this editor, as well as Editor Michael Gannon and freelance contributor Mark Lord, showing promise for possible careers in journalism by asking pointed questions.

The Chronicle is happy to accommodate groups of students, Scout troops and other youth organizations interested in a glimpse into the newspaper business. Call the office at (718) 205-8000 if you’d like to bring some young people over for a visit.
