Ann Stephens, second from right, recently was honored with a City Council proclamation for her years of work advocating for cancer prevention and treatment in Southeast Queens.

Joined here by Councilman Leroy Comrie, her daughter Vanessa Stephens and Dr. Jill Rabin of North Shore-LIJ Medical Center, Stephens, a retiree from the old New York Telephone Company, is credited with counseling and educating more than 4,000 people in Southeast Queens since joining the American Cancer Society as a volunteer in 1992. In 2012 she came out of retirement to join NSLIJ to promote health and wellness in the community.

Welcome to the discussion.
