Next month, our Tribeca Spotlight series shines on The Brooklyn Women’s Chorus performing on Friday, April 13 at 8PM. The women of the chorus will lift their joyful voices to present “Mother of Exiles,” readily described as “a timely performance of song, spoken word and projected images exploring the story of American immigration.
Through song and spoken poetry, the concert will celebrate the stories and lives of early immigrants—free and enslaved—including the grandparents of some of the chorus members as well as immigrants of today. Additionally, the concert will feature a media presentation of more than 400 images that “celebrate American immigration at its most hopeful.” The chorus will be joined by percussionist Robin Burdulis and saxophonist Jenny Hill; “Mother of Exiles” is staged and directed by Angela Lockhart.
