New York City Council Deputy Majority Leader Leroy Comrie, under the leadership of Speaker Christine Quinn, will join with Council Members James Sanders Jr. and Ruben Wills to host the Council’s annual Haiti Flag Day celebration at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic School, 115-50 221st Street on Saturday, May 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is FREE!

The mistress of ceremonies will be Elsie St. Louis Accilien, executive director of th...e Cambria Heights-based Haitian Americans United for Progress.

This tribute to Haitian-American culture and contributions will feature performances by the Haitian Difference Band of Community Inc.; dancers Barbara Beauvais and Sophia Baudin; and, singers Martina Bruno and Sheimyrah Mighty.

This year’s Haiti Flag Day honorees are:

•MONIQUE BLANCHARD – founder of CASEGHA-USA or Association des Anciens Scouts et Guides d'Haiti (Association of Former Scouts and Guides of Haiti); also co-founder of Haitian Americans United for Progress (HAUP).

•RUSSELL SIMPLICE - Cambria Heights corrections officer & National Guardsman who rescued family trapped in overturned vehicle in April traffic accident.

•MARTINA BRUNO - acclaimed classical singer known as "Angel of New York".

•DAVID DUCHATELLIER – television/film producer and ITT engineer.

•ROBERT CONSTANTINE- political organizer for 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East (UHWE).

•GEORGES JOSEPH JEAN-CHARLES - educator and co-founder of the Toussaint L'ouverture Foundation.
